Over the weekend, officers responded to the area of Central and Columbus for a report of a stolen vehicle seen in the area. Officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver abandoned the vehicle and took off running. With the assistance of Ontario PD’s helicopter and Chino PD K9 Cyra, officers coordinated a yard-to-yard search for the suspect.
Ontario’s helicopter observed a “hot spot” from a trash can in a side yard and K9 Cyra also alerted to the same area. The suspect immediately surrendered after hearing announcements to surrender and K9 Cyra barking. The suspect, who was on parole, was taken into custody and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
This was a great example of teamwork and utilizing available resources to increase community and officer safety in locating a wanted suspect.
