Overview

The Youth Accountability Board (YAB) is comprised of volunteer community members who meet to review the criminal cases of first-time youthful offenders. Board members offer mediation and intervention as an alternative to court resolution of minor civil actions.

YAB is offered in partnership with the City of Chino Community Services Department and the County of San Bernardino Probation Department. The intent is to help young offenders reestablish a sense of community values and personal responsibility for their actions. Participants enter into a contract that may require them to:

  • Complete community service hours
  • Attend skill building classes
  • Counseling
  • Pay restitution
  • Complete a reflection essay
  • Monitor their grades and school attendance

When the participant signs the contract, he/she agrees to fulfill the terms of the contract or be removed from the program.
