Readiness

The Readiness component focuses on making sure residents, businesses, and employees are properly informed and trained on how to prepare, respond, and recover in the event of a disaster.

The Department hosts annual community workshops and also provides presentations for community groups upon request. In addition, numerous community partnerships have been developed to create working groups that meet to share resources and information relevant to preparedness. The partnerships include, but are not limited to faith-based groups/churches, utility agencies, schools, government organizations, and service clubs.

We also offer the Listos program which is a basic emergency and disaster readiness public education program for Spanish-speaking populations with a grass-roots approach. The purpose of Listos is to provide very basic resources to Latino populations for emergency readiness in an environment in which they feel comfortable. Topics include:

  • Identifying Vulnerabilities
  • Creating a communication plan
  • Important Document Back-up
  • Fire Extinguisher Use
  • First Aid
  • Utilities Shut-off

The City of Chino participates in the annual Shake Out where millions of people worldwide will practice how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:18 am on October 18. Participating is a great way for your family or organization to be prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes- wherever you live, work, or travel.
