Emergency Road Closures

Update May 26:

On May 25, a crew contracted by an Ontario Developer to complete Ontario Ranch utility work damaged a Chino Valley Desalter Authority Waterline.

A repair solution is currently in the works. It is currently anticipated to take at least 5 days just to repair the waterline. After the waterline repairs are complete, additional repair to the roadway and other utilities will still need to occur.

It is currently estimated that it will take 2 weeks before the roadway can be reopened. Traffic control is in place and k-rail will be installed to surround the site and protect it from the public.

The preferred detour is Bickmore to Fern with the secondary detour of Edison to Central.

Original Post May 25:

Emergency Closure of Westbound Kimball Avenue between Euclid Avenue and Fern Avenue: A major waterline was hit at the construction area and has caused extensive damage. The closure will remain in place until further notice. Crews are on site to assess the damage.

Planned Road Closures

Central Avenue

NB and SB Central Avenue will be closed between the SR 60 on- and off-ramps Thursday, May 26 from 11:59 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (tomorrow morning) for crews to perform striping. Detour routes will be posted.

The SB Central Avenue right turn lane to WB SR 60 will be closed weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through mid-June. During this time, motorists will use the far-right lane to access the WB SR 60 on-ramp. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

The outside lane on Central Avenue between WB SR 60 on- and the EB off-ramp will be closed weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through mid-June. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

Kimball Avenue from Rincon Meadows to Main Street

Westbound lanes will be closed intermittently for night work taking place from 7:00PM to 6:00AM, Monday through Friday beginning Monday, May 9 through mid summer. Eastbound lanes on Kimball Avenue will remain open at all times.

In an effort to relieve some of the inconvenience, City staff is working with the contractor to implement a flagging operation during this phase of construction which will eliminate the need to close Kimball Avenue when implemented. Please use caution as you approach the construction site and follow posted signage. Thank you for your patience!

More on this project: As part of the ongoing development in The Preserve, Kimball Avenue, between Euclid Avenue and Rincon Meadows Avenue is being improved to include the installation of underground utilities, raised median, streetlights, traffic signals and the installation of a large storm drain to help reduce flooding in the area. It will also be widened to four lanes, with two lanes in each direction.

With the initial phase completed earlier this year, the project is now entering the next phase of work which includes the installation of underground vaults and conduit.

E/B Kimball Avenue West of Euclid - City of Ontario Development Work

The City of Ontario is continuing construction at Euclid Avenue from Merrill to Kimball for a main sewer line for future Ontario development. During the next phase East Bound Kimball Avenue will be reduced to one lane for an estimated duration of 2 months. Trucks detour route will be Fern Avenue to Bickmore Avenue.

To complete this work, there will be a phased closure in place affecting north-south Alleys south of B Street, north of Chino Avenue and between Central and Benson Avenues through the end of June 2022. Euclid Avenue at Merrill Avenue - Brine Line Project

This week the contractor will continue work on Euclid Avenue. Lane closures on Euclid Avenue north of Kimball will be implemented as needed during work hours of 7am-4pm. Access to Merrill Avenue at Euclid Avenue will be closed for a day to restore pavement and traffic signal sensors damaged by construction. The paving schedule is pending but will be performed by early June; traffic sensors should be restored by the second week of June.

More on the Brine Line Project: Work being completed is part of the Brine Line Project and includes the installation of (2) 6" diameter PVC pipelines and installation of 60" diameter manholes that will transport brine waste from the Chino Eastside Treatment Facility to the Chino 1 Treatment plant on Kimball Avenue.

Brine waste is a biproduct of the water treatment process Chino’s groundwater undergoes. Instead of trucking brine waste offsite, it will be conveyed to the treatment facility via the proposed brine pipeline. This will result in a reduction of truck traffic between the two plants.

Spirit Street from Main Street to Bravery Avenue

Full closure through August 2022 for developer related construction and improvements.
